Community Defence Marshalling System
We’re a community marshalling school.
Our objective is to defend rallies, pickets, public meetings and similar events.
We work collectively to mitigate harm, prevent injuries and avoid arrests.
We invite new marshals to bolster our role at protests and events in Naarm/Melbourne.
Our Marshalling School is a volunteer structure. At no cost, we provide coordinators, give advice, run training, and organise the deployment of defence marshals for community events.
I’m keen. What next?
- Join our WhatsApp group* – where we share marshal call-outs for upcoming events.
- Read our training manual for a full description of our school's role and activities.
- We’re happy to answer any questions you may have, and will train you ahead of deployment.
* Please note: this is a moderated but public WhatsApp group which does not require vetting or approval to join. If you have concerns about your digital security, we invite you to exercise your own discretion.

Our activities take place on Aboriginal land. We acknowledge that Indigenous sovereignty was never ceded, and stand firmly in solidarity with First Nations people against dispossession and genocide.
We participate in actions according to the cultural protocols of local Aboriginal people – most often, Kulin Nations people – to the best of our knowledge and abilities.
